Vmware Tools Error Microsoft Runtime Dll Installer Failed 'LINK'

Hello - we get the error "The Microsoft Runtime DLL installer failed to complete the installation." when we try to install Vmware tools on Windows 7 and Windows 2003. We haved googled and tried what we could find. But nothing helped. What can we do to get the tools installed.
